The "French Network of Institutes for Advanced Studies"
The program law for research made on April 2006 enabled the scientific community to create, with the help of State funding, thematic networks for advanced research (TNAR) to lead projects of scientific excellence.
Following the call for projects in May 2006, the government selected the “French Network of Institutes for Advanced Studies” from the thirteen TNARS projects, which were formed as Foundations for scientific cooperation. It is the only project in the network for the human and social sciences.
The “French Network of Institutes for Advanced Studies” Foundation includes four Institutes for Advanced Studies (IAS). Each constitutes its own distinct and independent legal entity. They are located in Aix-Marseille, Lyon, Nantes and Paris.
The “French network of Institutes for Advanced Studies” Foundation also helps fund research activities undertaken by the four IAS.
The “French Network of Institutes for Advanced Studies” Foundation is also developing a common strategy, and cooperation and information initiatives in order to strengthen scientific interactivity and raise the international visibility of the four IAS.
The missions of the “French Network of Institutes for Advanced Studies” Foundation are:
- Create places where internationally renowned researchers can dialogue and exchange in France,
- Promote interaction among researchers in order to improve quality, encourage interdisciplinary, and modernize research in the human and social sciences,
- Prep future generations of researchers to partake in research on the international level,
- Have a presence in the large global networks of IAS.
The “French Network of Institutes for Advanced Studies” whose headquarters is in Lyon is included in the network of foundations recognized as being of public interest.
