The LOGOS project – Knowledge on Demand for Ubiquitous Learning – is a European R&D project, i.e. financed by the 6th RDFP (project duration: February 2006 – February 2009).
The first issue addressed by the LOGOS project constitutes a real challenge: making online audiovisual research accessible not only to a given multilingual community (such as the one in Europe), but also for specific uses, namely in the fields related to lifelong learning. Another issue addressed aims at making it possible to access audiovisual collections, such as the ARA’s, not only via the Web, but also via mobile phones, Ipods, PSPs, DVD players, or even interactive digital television.
The LOGOS project is coordinated by the Hungarian television station called ANTENNA HUNGARICA. The consortium is composed of 15 partners from 9 different countries. The FMSH is represented by its R&D service, ESCoM.
ESCoM’s role in this project consists in: setting up a portal site devoted to the material and immaterial heritage of the world’s peoples; specification and creation of online educational resources using the ARA’s audiovisual collection; setting up the terminological resources needed for proceeding to a detailed indexation of the chosen corpus; and, the scientific and technical validation of tools and resources developed by the project.
The Peoples and Cultures of the World portal site includes a media library, an evolving hypermedia encyclopedia, and a library of bilingual educational folders. In time, it will also propose a customizable downloading service for other IT tools such as mobile phones, Ipods, DVD players, or digital tele-visual programs.
