Program Objectives

Created in 1982, the research group on Weimar culture has the following objectives:

-  Enhance studies on the intellectual make-up in Germany during the 1920s.
Promote interdisciplinary and pluridisciplinary research in the fields of history, sociology, philosophy, and literature by building a national and international structure for exchanges.

 - Inventory the research to be performed.

- Forge contacts with all institutions likely to promote this research and to be interested in it.

- Spark new research by guiding and supporting beginning researchers.

The projects being developed for 2007 and 2007 are:

  • Theories and philosophies of history from the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
  • Philosophical anthropology: its origins and future.
  • Ethics and politics. Representations of history and power in the literature.
  • Theories and critiques of sciences of culture in Europe.

With these scheduled seminars:

  • Walter Benjamin, Writings on French literature.
  • The crisis in the philosophy of history in the 20th century.
  • Masses: The question of masses according to authors in philosophical anthropology (Scheler, Plessner, Gehlen)

Scientific directors:
