For over 10 years, the History Committee has been one of the programs developed by the FMSH/CCRDA then the FMSH/DEVAR in the framework of an agreement with the Ministry of Culture (Research and Technology Mission) on promoting research.
The Committee’s Missions
Assemble and gain recognition for the historical works of the ministry in charge of cultural affairs and by people under its authority,
Stimulate research, studies, bibliographical work, and source guides and publish them and ensure their promotion among the public,
Organize seminars, colloquiums, and other kinds of events in this field,
Help coordinate collaboration among institutions and individuals working in this field,
Help bring together and conserve documents and materials dealing with history,
Advise the minister and directors regarding any question about the ministry’s history.
Committee Activities
Work groups include Committee members, historians, sociologists, and administrators. They were built around the following priority areas:
- Work group on research tools
- Work group on the history of the National Center for Cinematography
- State Decentralization Movement
- History of Local Cultural Policies
- History of Civil Service
- History of National Heritage and Architecture Policies
Most meetings are held at Maison Suger. Each year, a collective work is published with Documentation Française under the watchful eye of the Ministry of Culture’s History Committee and the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme. Here are some examples:
• 1998: Local Policy and Cultural Issues
• 1999: Bibliography on the History of France’s Cultural Policy, 19th and 20th centuries
• 2001: Cultural Affairs and Territories
• 2002: Local Governments and Culture
• 2003: For a History of National Heritage Policies
