Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research Stays in Germany

This postdoctoral fellowship program was created in 2003 thanks to support from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation (http://www.fritz-thyssen-stiftung.de/ ). It bears the name of Clemens Heller (1917-2002). After having created the FMSH with Fernand Braudel in the 1960s, Heller went on to become the assistant of Fernand Braudel, the foundation’s first administrator. In 1985, he succeeded Braudel and served as administrator until 1992. While developing West-East and North-South relations, Clemens Heller turned the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme into a real platform for scientific cooperation in the humanities and social sciences on both the European and international levels. The early 1980s witnessed an increase in cooperation between French and German researchers and saw them assume positions in international networkss. This was in large part thanks to the work of Clemens Heller.

It was in the spirit of Clemens Heller that this fellowship program bearing his name was designed. The program enables highly qualified young researchers to begin or continue a research project of their choice in a German research institution.
