:: DIVAS Project

The DIVAS project – Direct Video & Audio Content Search Engine – is a European R&D project, meaning it was financed by the 6th RDFP (project duration: January 2007 – January 2009).
This project deals with solving the problem of finding relevant content in massive databases of audiovisual data without using any particular indexation method for audiovisual data.  This issue is particularly important for a program like the Audiovisual Research Archives (ARA), given that its collection is composed of nearly 4,000 hours of videos.  Yet, it is becoming increasingly difficult to precisely locate relevant content in relationship to a given query, or relevant in relationship to an interest profile, either of a user or even a community of users.   

The project is coordinated by the ARCHETYPON group from Athens.  It has technological partners from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Greece, Russia, and Israel.  

The FMSH is represented in the project by its R&D service, ESCoM.  ESCoM’s roles include:  defining and specifying different scenarios for finding information or content in a massive database of audiovisual data, such as the Audiovisual Research Archives Program (ARA); testing the environment and tools developed by the consortium, and, if applicable, to integrate it, as a new additional service, into its network of existing audiovisual sites.
