4 Members of the pre-selection and selection committees choose applicants based on their scientific skills, the quality and feasibility of their scientific project, and the complementary fit between the project and research being carried out at the chosen host laboratory.
5 Selection:
The selection process takes into account the academic background of the applicant, as well as the appeal and quality of the research proposed, the motives given by the applicants in the research project proposal, and the letters of recommendation. This process is carried out by independent evaluators (professors and specialists in each field) and by a selection committee made up of French and foreign experts.
6 Approximate timeline:
2 calls per year, in March and September.
The selection committee meets in June (for the March call) and in November or December (for the September call).
Results are announced to the candidates in the following days.

5 Pre-selection:
The selection process includes a pre-selection stage. The selection process takes into account the academic background of the applicant, as well as the appeal and quality of the research proposed, the motives given by the applicants in the research project proposal, and the letters of recommendation. This process is carried out by independent evaluators (professors and specialists in each field) and by a selection committee made up of French and foreign experts.
6 Selection:
6.1 Pre-selected applicants are invited to present their research project during an interview with the selection committee.
6.2 This interview lasts 20-25 minutes, and comprises: a presentation of the application by the applicant (5 minutes), and questions from committee members in French and in the language of the host country (15-20 minutes).
6.3 This interview cannot be carried out via conference call or via any other means of telecommunication.
7. Approximate timeline
2 calls per year: in March and September.
For the March call, the pre-selection committee usually meets in May or June. Interviews take place in June. For the September call, the pre-selection committee usually meets in November or December. Interviews take place in December or January.
Notification of the results to the candidates:
-For candidates to a Clemens Heller fellowship (to Germany), results are announced around a month after the hearings, for administrative matters.
- For candidates to other fellowships: results are announced a few days after the interviews.
