:: Argentina Cooperation

Buenos aires

Collaborations with Argentina date back to the second half of the 1980s.  The FMSH opted not to limit them to the University of Buenos Aires, with whom the Franco-Argentinean Center for the Social Sciences was created, but to seize all opportunities to forge ties with the main provincial universities.

This led to signing a specific collaboration agreement with the University of Cuyo in Mendoza in 2003.  With its Franco-Cuyana association set up by Dean Maria Victoria Gomez de Erice, this constitutes a major step forward for many of the FMSH’s initiatives in Argentina, which are supported by the diplomatic post in Buenos Aires.  This is the case, for example, of the exchange portal, which is structured around the activities of the Audiovisual Research Archives.

Over the recent years, invited Argentinean researchers have dealt with gender studies and the notion of citizenship, the history of political organizations, urban sociology and semeiology, as well as the anthropology of Chaco populations and political philosophy.  The quality of the Argentinean researchers having received research scholarships has made it possible to foresee long-term exchange programs on the most pressing research areas.

In 2007, the FMSH was pleased to host UBA Dean, Ruben Hallu, at the Rue Suger residence for a visit organized by the Embassy of France in Buenos Aires.  It was agreed upon during this visit that we would actively participate in opening this major university to all Argentinean research and learning institutions, but also to those in other Latin American countries.  This initiative has been made possible thanks to the Franco-Argentinean Center’s efforts, in particular.
