Based on a long tradition of privileged intellectual and scientific contacts with France and on a tradition of comparatism, these programs aim to prolong and enhance collaborations undertaken with Brazil over twenty years ago, and with Argentina and Mexico during the last decade.
Efforts to extend collaborations to other Latin American countries include individual invitations or periodical initiatives, namely concerning Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, and the Caribbean region.
To reach these objectives, the FMSH has devised concrete means of action, including:
- the scientific and technical management of Préfalc: Programme régional de coopération avec l’Amérique latine et la Caraïbe (Program for Regional Cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean)
- flexible bilateral agreements signed with higher learning/research institutions and research financing organizations from the various countries:
• Argentina Partnership
• Colombia Partnership
• Mexico Partnership
• Research Center on Brazil
• Or, the Hermès Program.
In addition, the Foundation supports various chairs, both in France (Sergio Buarque de Holand Brazilian Chair,which is being used as a development model for creating three new Latin American Chairs), and in Brazil (Charles Morazé Chair).
Lastly, the FMSH is a supporter of the Latin American Book Fair, most recently held on 10-12 May 2007 at the Maison de l’Amérique Latine and the Embassy of Paraguay.
