Since its creation, the FMSH has worked towards building an enlarged European space for research. At the service of the entire French and European scientific community, the FMSH is continuing in this direction by promoting researcher mobility (young postdoctoral and senior researchers), creating scientific networks, and by supporting projects that entail European collaboration.
Over recent decades, the FMSH has continuously improved its platform for scientific cooperation, not only on the level of an enlarged European Union but of the entire continent. Over the years, the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme has forged different types of ongoing partnerships with various scientific researchers and institutions. Such partnerships, which in most cases begin as multilateral scientific operations, typically call for several European and extra-European partners at later stages.
The FMSH ensures that this cooperation platform is available not only to foreign scholars, but also to French researchers and professors. Accordingly, teams and researchers belonging to different national research communities are now beginning to build networks and projects for scientific cooperation. Any French university or institution is eligible to participate in the FMSH’s scientific programs or to use these programs for hosting foreign researchers.
For years the FMSH has been a key player in building a European space for research. It continues to play an active role on behalf of the French scientific community through its policies and programs on:
• mobility of young postdoctoral and senior researchers
• creating and animating scientific networks
• developing tools for reinforcing European and international cooperation
In most cases, the FMSH’s programs for exchanges and scientific collaborations are carried out through partnerships with research organizations, private foundations, and French and foreign ministries. From a scientific standpoint, they are the fruit of solid bilateral collaborations that shall remain at the core of the FMSH’s scientific policy on the European level.
Operational modalities vary from one program to the next. Only part of the activities are carried out according to formal agreements or structured programs: postdoctoral mobility programs, Franco-British cooperations, or the trilateral research workshops (France - Germany - Italy). It is only these formalized and structured programs that are presented on the website. The FMSH remains open to any proposals from French or foreign researchers that would not fit into the FMSH’s structured and formalized programs.
