:: Computer and Server Applications

The main services administered by the CRD use the following server applications:

  • messaging system: SMTP and SMPTS servers (sending mail), POP server (inbox server), webmail server (e-mail access via the web), plus an antivirus gateway that protects all messaging servers.
  • web services: using various platforms (Unix server, Linux servers, Windows server), open-source and licensed applications, and collective work methods, a large number of websites are able to be housed.
  • database service: a portion of the database servers are integrated into the web services.  The applications used are either open-source or licensed.  The CRD also administers application servers for MSH services, including the MSH’s library catalogue and information system, accounting applications, and scientific secretarial duties.
  • user accounts service: this includes LDAP (authentication) servers and file servers (storage and file sharing)
  • mailing list and forums service: a Linux server using the SYMPA application, developed by French engineers from the university sector.
  • evaluation, filtering, statistics and security service: several Linux servers using open-source applications, namely NetMet (developed by computer engineers from the University of Nancy), MRTG, Nagios, Orca, etc.
