Located within the Foundation since its creation in 1998, the Center for Franco-Norwegian Cooperation in the Social and Human Sciences has just organised a three day celebration together with the Norwegian Embassy, combining it with the Hamsun Year. With the showing of Faim, a film built around Hamsun's novel published in 1890, a colloquium on Hamsun, modernity and modernism and, finally, the opening of an exhibition from the painter who illustrated Pan, another of its novels.
An opportunity to appreciate its numerous activities over the years: bilateral relations between Norway and France as much for the mobility of researchers as for scientific events and publications.

This thematic enabled to cross analysis from researchers from countries involved in migratory processes, in particular Spain, Italy, France, Romania and Lithuania. It also underlined the diversity of migratory experiences, and the migrants' abilities to adapt, as well as the growing use of new technologies to symbolicaly neutralise distances.

Towards a Global Documentary Policy for the FMSH Library

Director of FMSH library

In a time when library contents and professions evolve drastically, the FMSH library has deeply reconsidered its documentary policy. The analysis led to a more global documentary policy, with a view to a cross-disciplinary or thematic approach, rather than an approach by media.
After the first step, the formalisation within a documentary charter, a suty is now being conducted to elaborate a development plan, whereas a scientific committee for acquisitions has just been appointed.
The library faces two main challenges: to reach an equilibirum between paper and digital documents (on-line consultation, collaborative projects to digitize, etc.) and to mutualise resources within budget.

Last October, the FMSH launched "Place des revues" a wiki to overcome the limits of other databases dedicated to research and cultural journals. Based on web 2.0 technologies, this tool responds to the need for velocity, as much for the diffusion as for the update of datas, for a reference center and for enhancing interactivity amongst contributors.
With over 300 entries at the moment (and thousands potentially), the site offers metadata information (no content on-line) for various targets: general readers, librarians, editors, booksellers and researchers.
It also opens up to debate with a specific space, "Le Café", for professional discussions.
