The 3rd Rencontres took place at the end of January / beginning of February in Paris. Once again, the motivation of the public has to be underlined, thanks to the presence of 130 editors and a rich programme of round tables, conferences and interprofessional meetings. This year 's international orientation focused on Central and Eastern Europe, as much in the selection of editors (20) as in the programme, with a specific conference organised by EHESS in ENS, to which a Mellon / FMSH fellow participated. |

For the 3rd time, the FMSH participated in the Fête de la science in Paris. With the French presidency of the European Union, this year's edition was particularly important and took place in the mythic Grand Palais. The Réseau des MSH built, together with the Humanities department of CNRS and the libraries and scientific information direction of the Ministry of Higher Education, and numerous other research laboratories and libraries, an ambitious exhibition, potentially touring, and animation programme on the culture of writing. |

The Near and Middle East FMSH programme organised last November a debate on urbanism in Bagdad, around the publication of Caecilia Peri, Bagdad arts déco. Architecture de brique 1920-1950 . The book results from its author's current research on urban modernity in Bagdad between 1920 and 1960. It aims at going against the general opinion of a totally destroyed Bagdad, at tracing the history of the urban transformations that took place in the 20th century and at underlining the urgency of saving this urban heritage. A rich iconography, a photographic campaign and two chronologies illustrate the synthesis of the urban organisation of Bagdad before 1950. |
